Curriculum Overviews
Here is the curriculum we use. We waited for most of these to go on sales when we bought them over the last few months. The Good and the Beautiful didn't have any sales but they have had a lot of sales over November and December and are launching a new line of Math courses soon. Some of the curriculums are still on sale right now.
Course: Language Arts & Handwriting (Per Child)
Source:The Good and The Beautiful
Assessment: Here is the assessment to see what level to use. Cost: Free or up to $63. Handwriting Books are $13-14. Christian Faith based curriculum. You can get the PDFs for free for Language Arts Levels 1-5 by clicking on the circles. No credit card needed, just your email address. Or you can buy the books printed for about $63.
Course: Math (Per Child) Source: The Good and The Beautiful
Assessment: Here is the assessment to see what level to use. Cost: $50-$110 Christian Faith based curriculum. You can click on the Buy Individual Items and Buy Downloads to do the PDF versions. I'd recommend buying the actual box and not the "Box Download" though. Lots of little manipulatives in that box and it was really nice to have everything in one place ready to go. Plus the Level 1 Box is used for Level 2 as well. They are releasing a new curriculum for math that is supposed to be more affordable and less wordy so you may want to wait until August 2021 before you buy.
Course: History, Geography, Science, Literature, Art, Music (We use something else for Art and Music but they have it included in their subscription). Source: The Family School
Cost: $0 (Free Membership that is limited), $29/month, or $799/Lifetime Access. These are not split up per child so one membership covers your whole family. Note: This is an LDS Faith based school. They split up into K-6 & 7-12 courses. So each course is for kids from K-6 which means sometimes I have to stop and explain things. They are now releasing videos of their teachers teaching the material as well so you just have to hit play and don't even have to lead the lessons. I haven't used their videos yet because we were midyear when they started releasing them. If you have a monthly or lifetime plan you can also add on a "Power Hour" option for $10-20/child/month where their teacher teach the kids online and the kids meet virtually in groups to discuss the material covered.
Course: Art Source: Youtube Videos
Cost: $0 (plus cost of supplies) Note: I googled different kinds of art types and then find Youtube videos of those types. Watercolors, drawing, salt and crayon watercolors, sculpting, origami, air dry clay sculptures, etc.
Course: Music- Piano (per child) Source: Hoffman Academy
Cost: $0 (free videos) or get Premium for $18/mo, $179/yr, or $495/lifetime (they have sales occasionally). Note: You can use the videos for free or sign up for the Premium membership that has games and worksheets, etc. Andrew has been playing the piano for almost 30 years and says this is one of the best curriculums he has seen, especially for kids.
Course: Spanish Source: Rosetta Stone
Cost: Lifetime Unlimited Languages $199/child. Or $6.99-11.99/mo depending on how many months you commit to. Note: The unlimited languages means you can do multiple languages at the same time or when your kid is done with one they can move on to another. I like that I don't have to do anything for it and that the kids do it on their own. Even our three year old does it although he is definitely not learning anything at that age.
Course: Computer (but they also have other subjects free) Source: Easy Peasy/All In One
Cost: Free Note: They also cover other subjects and everything on their site is free.
Course: Computer Programming Source: Tynker
Cost: Family Plans (with up to 4 accounts) cost $30/month, $10.50/month if you sign up for the year, or $252 for a Lifetime account. Note: If you only have one child then an individual plan will be cheaper for your family. This teaches more of the language theory than the actual programming language at this stage.
Course: Typing Source: Typing Club
Cost: Free Note: The Jr. Jungle course is good to help kids remember where letters are and practice their hand flexibility. The Jungle course is good for kids (6+) to start learning proper hand placement and how to type.
Course: Review for Math, Grammar, and Spelling Source: SumDog
Cost: Free or $6/month Note: This is good for general review for math, grammar, and spelling. We bought the subscription for "Bud Bud" so that he has his own school work he can do while we are doing the other courses. It increases difficulty as children learn concepts too and gives assessments and reports if you buy the subscription.
