2-3 Year Old: Craft, Candy Corn
Today we made candy corn! Well, not the real candy corn but we made collages of candy corn. This has me in the mood for some more Halloween crafts during our free time!
One of the mom's brought in the craft today plus some real candy corn for the kids to eat. Bug didn't like it but he did like looking at it. We taped one to the wall so the kids could see and we practiced learning positions while talking about the colors. For instance, we asked what the color on the bottom, middle, and top of the candy corn were. Then we had them try to mimic the color pattern on their own paper. Here is how you can do it at home too.
Materials needed:
Black construction paper
Silver sharpie
Cut out squares of construction paper (yellow, orange, and white)
Glue sticks
Candy corn
Instructions:
Draw a candy corn outline on your black paper with the silver sharpie.
Use an actual candy corn to talk about the colors on the candy and their positions (top, middle, and bottom).
Have the children glue squares on their paper. Try to do it in the right "order": white on top, orange in the middle, and yellow on the bottom.
Eat the candy corn you brought in to look at!

There was a white square on top but it fell off during free play.
Speaking of which, today for music time we handed out kazoos to each child. It was amazing. The kids knew almost immediately what to do and they were playing with the kazoos the rest of the time they were here. I let the kids keep their own (sorry moms!). If you do this be prepared for a VERY noisy and fun time.
