Activity: The Sorting Game

I mentioned in a previous post that we played the "Sorter" game. Here is how you can do it in your home.

Materials Needed:

  • Marbles, Pom Poms, Colorful Buttons, or other small objects

  • Muffin Pan (Can also use an ice cube tray)

  • Children's tweezers

I found all of these objects at the Dollar Tree.

Instructions:

  1. Dump out all the marbles (or whichever object you chose) on the floor.

  2. Place a few of the same color in each muffin tin.

  3. Have your child use their tweezers to pick up the marble and place it in the correct muffin tin.

  4. Dump out and repeat!

We love this activity. It teaches gripping, sorting, and hand-eye coordination. Not to mention it's just fun!

Tip: Normal size marbles have proven to be really hard for Bug. If I was to repeat this I would buy large marbles (think of the one big shooter that comes in each pack). He does much better with the Pom Poms but he still insists on doing the marbles.
