Day 1: 2-3 Year Olds

Day 1 was a smashing success. I was anxious about how Bug would react to changing activities but he seemed to move effortlessly to each subject.

Circle Time was a rough start. Being new to the idea, he was distracted by our posters. But once I got him engaged (singing "Days of the Week" and "Months of the Year" songs) it was smooth sailing. The 100 most common sight words was the most difficult part. I'm thinking about moving it down to two words each week instead of five. He's just having a hard time tracking what word is which and I want Circle Time to be a positive reinforcement of what he knows instead of a whole new learning curriculum. We'll see if it stays or not.

Today's craft was coloring some train safety coloring pages. Since Bug loves trains I figured it would capture his attention for a long time. Surprisingly, he just wanted to scribble with chalk and move straight to story time. Bibs even got in on the coloring action.

I let Bibs continue coloring while Bug and I moved on to reading. This was where we spent most of our time since he loves reading. We read "Time for Bed Pout Pout Fish" and "How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Birthday?". We read each one probably three times before I decided to move on to singing time.

Bug asked to sing "Old McDonald Had a Farm" so we started with that. Eventually we moved on to "Eensy Weensy Spider" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

All in all, a great start to our day. The kids aren't feeling so well so free play today has been snuggling with me and listening to soundtrack music.
